    Dr. Clinton Frederick "Fred" Lavender died November 5, 2013 in Panama City, Florida, at 91 years, after a brief illness.

    He was the loving husband of Jeanne Lavender, devoted father of Jane/Bob, Mary/Milton, and Patricia. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Anne and Beth/James, Emma, Clark/Shanna and Nathan, and great-granddaughter Madeline, and by his protégé, Maya.

    He was predeceased by Mary Ann Lavender, his first wife and Anne, his second daughter.

    Fred was a founding partner in the first pediatric medical practice in Sandusky, Ohio, and was recognized and respected for decades of professional and volunteer service in Sandusky and in Chipley, Florida, where he spent the later years of his retirement.

    He was born in 1922 in Mansfield, Ohio, to a horse and buggy doctor and his wife. Fred achieved Phi Beta Kappa and medical society honors in both undergraduate and medical schools. He served in the U.S. Army, then moved to Sandusky, opening the first Pediatric practice in Erie County with his childhood friend Bill Seiler.

    After retirement Fred's wife, Mary Ann died in 1992. He met and married Jeanne and moved to Florida.

    Fred began his commitment to volunteerism in his childhood, achieving Eagle Scout. As an adult he volunteered in Ohio and Florida with both adults and children in literacy, libraries, music/arts, environmental issues in local and state parks, as a Guardian ad Litem, foster kids, and Take Stock in Children, as well as a medical volunteer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, polio vaccine campaign, and hospital boards.

    Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30th, at 2pm at St Mathews Episcopal Church on Hwy 90 in Chipley Florida, where he lived the last 20 years with Jeanne. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to your favorite charity.

    Dr. Lavender was Elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
    He attended Western Reserve School of Medicine, Degree of Doctor conferred March 15, 1946.

    His second wife, Jeanne, passed away in 2017.
