Bruce who died in March 1316. in March 1316. Marriage likely took place in 1317. married three times: firstly to Sir James Lindsay of Crawford Castle; secondly to Sir Hugh Eglinton of Ardrossan; and thirdly to Sir James Douglas of Dalkeith.ert Stewart who became King Robert II of Scotland. Robert's biological mother, Marjorie Bruce, was the 1st wife of Walter Stewart and the daughter of King Robert I of Scotland. She died giving birth to Robert, therefore, Isabel was the only mother that Robert Stewart knew.sabella', as the wife of Walter, High Steward of Scotland and the daughter of Nicholas de Graham of Dalkeith and his wife Mary of Strathearn, as well as the sister of John Graham of Abercorn.e Foundation for Medieval Genealogy identifies 'Isabel' also as the wife of Walter Stewart, High Steward of Scotland, therefore we know the sources are for the same woman. But it identifies her as the daughter of John Graham of Abercorn (d.25 Apr 1337) and his wife Isabella, not his sister, and the granddaughter of Nicholas de Graham of Dalkeith and his wife Mary of Strathearn. This relationship is more likely. Isabel married Walter, as his 2nd wife, about 1317, his 1st wife was still alive in 1316. If she were the daughter of Nicholas and Mary, Isabel would have been approaching 40 or 50 in 1317. A very unusual age for a woman's 1st marriage. Walter was born in 1296 and is not likely to have married a woman 20 or more years his senior. If Isabel were the daughter of Nicholas she would have been at the end-of or past childbearing age in 1317, which we know is not the case for she gave Walter Stewart 3 children. uch it would be reasonable to date her birth to about 1295/1300, this would make her age 17 to 22 in 1317, a much more reasonable age for her marriage. Reasonable for a 1st marriage, reasonable considering the age of her husband, and reasonable considering the birth of their children.
