Notes about Marten Brascamp (Hermsen)

Marten kreeg schik van Maria van Werven wonende op de “Kolk” bij Scherpenzeel en de Barlo. Zij was de dochter van Hendrik van Werven en Gerritje Logtenberg. Zij was erg knap en haar Vader was zeer welgesteld. Hij voelde er niets voor om haar te laten trouwen met een mulder, en wou eerst geen toetstemming geven. Maar ze bleven elkander trouw en de liefde had hier ’t laatste woord en het kwam toch tot een zeer gelukkig huwelijk.
Maar ’t was de statige boer de oude van Werven altijd een doorn in ’t oog, dat zijn dochter maar met een mulder getrouwd was, en hij bood Marten een boerenplaats aan als hij maar boer wilde worden. Dat leek Marten toch te mooi om het niet aan te nemen en zoo werd hij boer op “Klein Duur”. Toch trok Marten's hart naar het mulderleven en hij liet op de deel van Klein Duur een kleine molen maken, zoodat hij nog zijn eigen koren maalde.
