Een bidprentje ter nagedachtenis aan Hendrik bevat de volgende tekst: "Hendrik werd geboren in Wiene, als derde in een gezin van 9 kinderen. Hij bezocht de jongensschool in Delden, veelal lopend vanuit de boerderij in Wiene. Toen hij 12 jaar was, werd hij boerenknecht. Tijdens de oorlog, toen er geen werk was, heeft hij hout gekapt en verkocht in Delden. Na de oorlog kwam hij in dienst van de Boerenbond, later CTA. Tot zijn pensioen heeft hij daar gewerkt, onder andere als chauffeur.
Ook op ander gebied was hij zeer actief en kon men op hem rekenen. Zo stond hij 60 jaar geleden aan de wieg van Voetbalvereniging Bentelo als secretaris/penningmeester. Door zijn vele werk voor de vereniging werd hij later benoemd tot erelid. Zijn hele leven was hij gek op voetbal. Hij heeft 40 jaar lang de wedstrijden van FC Twente bijgewoond, samen met zijn broer Frans en zijn vriend Johan Kamers. Na afloop van de wedstrijden praatten ze na bij Frans en Annie. Het vroegtijdig overlijden van Johan heeft hem erg aangegrepen.
Hendrik was ook jarenlang betrokken als penningmeester bij de organisatie van de school- en volksfeesten en hij heeft zich ingezet voor de ouderenreisjes in Bentelo.
Een groot deel van zijn leven heeft hij bij Jan en Truus in het ouderlijk huis gewoond. Hij sprak altijd over "de oonzen" en maakte deel uit van dit gezin. Hij zorgde vol overgave voor de tuin, dit was zijn grote trots. Elke zomer ging hij een dag op stap met de kinderen. Toen de familie de boerderij verliet in 1994 ging Hendrik "op zichzelf" wonen, eerst aan de Morsmanstraat en de laatste 2 jaar op 't Niehoes.
Eind 1988 ging hij op reis, samen met Dinie en Herman, eerst naar Rudolf Pierik in Australië en toen naar Antoon en Letty in Nieuw Zeeland. Het werd voor hem een groot en dierbaar avontuur.
Zijn hele leven mocht Hendrik genieten van een goede gezondheid. Helaas werd hij ruim een jaar geleden ziek. Hij heeft 2 weken geleden zijn verjaardag nog kunnen vieren, in het bijzijn van zijn naaste familie. Wij blijven hem herinneren als een eenvoudige en vriendelijke man, zeer gehecht aan zijn naaste familie en vrienden."
