De doop was op 13-01-1799 in de Pieterskerk in Leiden, drie dagen na de geboorte. Bij kleinzoon Johannes Gerardus zijn de aantekeningen erbij:
1816: de school "Leids departement tot Nut van het Algemeen" is ingestort bij de kruitramp.
1822: Bij de Leidse universiteit de titel mr. in de rechten.
1830: Drukkerij geopend.
1831: Lid "Maatschappij Nederlandse Letterkunde".
1837: Penningmeester van "M.N.L".
1844: Eigenaar van de "Leidse Courant".
