Werd in 1727 door de invloed van Lt. Torck, Heer van Rozendaal, door Willem III met 2 andere Engelsen ontboden, om de bouw onzer oorlogsschepen te verbeteren, die in bezeildheid bij de Engelsen, en vooral bij de Fransen, ten achter waren. Toegevoegd aan de scheepsbouwmeester Thomas Davis in 1727 om de scheepsbouwkunst te onderwijzen.
Klom op bij de admiraliteit te Amsterdam en "sloeg zijn slag bij den inkoop der houtwaren" [Johan E. Elias II, p.577]
