Notes about Pieter Louwe Boers

De geschiedenis van deze werf gaat terug tot 1763. Pieter Boers uit Sliedrecht krijgt van het stadsbestuur van Arnemuiden een vergunning voor de oprichting van een scheepstimmerwerf met sleehelling. Deze is gelegen bij het Nieuwe Hoofd achter de voormalige kolenpakhuizen. In hetzelfde jaar verhuist Jacobus Meerman van Biezelinge naar Arnemuiden. Waarschijnlijk gaat deze Jacobus werken op de scheepswerf van Boers. Boers verkoopt zijn bedrijf in 1766 aan Gillis Fafa uit Schiedam. Nadat de werf verschillende keren van eigenaar is gewisseld, koopt Jacobus Meerman in november 1786 de scheepswerf met loods, kanthelling en gereedschappen. Vanaf dat moment is het een familiebedrijf: tot eind 2003 blijft de scheepswerf in handen van nazaten van Jacobus Meerman.
