MARINE EN LEGER. (uit Het Nieuws Van Den Dag d.d. 14-05-1907 blz.5)
Zaterdag is te Deventer voor het
front van de troepen aan den gepasporteerden in-
fanterist le klasse, D. J. Blom, door den garnizoens-
commandant, luit.-kolonel Erzy, van het 4e regiment
huzaren, op plechtige wijze de Militaire Willemsorde
4e klasse uitgereikt.
D. J. Blom, in 1882 geboren, nam in 1901 dienst
als soldaat bij het O. I. leger, vertrok 16 Maart en
kwam 20 April te Padang aan, waar hij werd inge-
deeld. Van 1905—1907 nam hij deel aan de krijgsver-
richtingen op Celebes. Op 30 Januari jl. werd met
een detachement, waarbij Blom, uit Kampong Brona
uitgerukt, om de naburige vijandelijke versterking
Djaladja te nemen. Na eerst behoorlijk te hebben
verkend, werd zoo gedekt mogelijk tot op ongeveer
300 M. tegen de versterking opgerukt, waarna de
gevechtsformatie werd aangenomen en het vuur ge-
opend; het vuur van het bij de colonne ingedeelde
marinegeschut had het vijandelijk vuur reeds tot
zwijgen gebracht.
Terwijl de genie voortrukte om zooveel mogelijk de
hindernissen op te ruimen, werd door de infanterie
tot den aanval overgegaan, waarbij vele manschappen
door het vuur van den vijand of door de versper-
ringen gewond werden.
Blom, ofschoon reeds gewond aan den voet, rechter-
knie en linkerdij, wist het eerst binnen de verster-
king te komen en begon onmiddellijk van zijn wapens
gebruik te maken.
Spoedig waren anderen hem gevolgd, waarna op-
nieuw tot den aanval werd overgegaan en de vijand
met verlies van 9 dooden en ruim 40 gewonden op
de vlucht werd gedreven.
Met Paschen repatrieerde hij en kwam, geheel van
zijn wonden genezen, te Deventer aan.
Bij Kon. besluit van 31 Maart 1907 werd hij be-
noemd tot ridder der Militaire Willemsorde 4e klasse.
De militaire plechtigheid op De Brink werd bijge
woond door een groote menigte belangstellenden.
