De kinderen Hendrik en Zwaantje, zijn bij het huwelijk van Jacob en Geesje gewettigd. Jacob en Geesje hadden wel eerder willen trouwen, maar hij was voor en tijdens zijn huwelijk in militaire dienst waar hem zijn geldgordel, die hij aan zijn bed had gehangen, werd ontstolen. Hij tekende daarna bij om wat geld om handen te hebbenals hij trouwde, doch hij kon blijkbaar toch niet waschten met minnekozen, vandaar die twee voorkinderen.
Hij was het marcherenkennelijk nog niet verleerd, want tijdens de eerste stakingen in het veen liep hij voorop met een rode zakdoek aan een stok.Bij Rahder in Noordscheschut kregen ze ter vervanging een Nederlandse vlag. (Zo'n rode doek was te veel een symbool van links en dat waren ze toch eigenlijk ook weer niet.
