    Tijdens de meidagen van 1940 was hij kok in Haarlem en gekazerneerd in de Groen van Prinstererschool aan het Leidseplein.

    Na een weigering om aan een Duitse militair te vertellen waar een door zijn werkgever A. Hengst verborgen radio lag werd hij doodgeschoten. Hengst gebruikte de radio clandestien, omdat het bij een algemene Duitse verordening 138/41 d.d. 25 juli 1941 verboden was hiervan gebruik te maken. Een misdrijf waarop vijf jaar gevangenisstraf stond. De familie Hengst luisterde regelmatig naar de verboden radio-uitzendingen van Radio Oranje vanuit Londen. De felle Sudeten Duitse Gefreiter (soldaat) beval Keestra dat hij binnen vijf minuten moest zeggen waar het apparaat zich bevond. Zo niet, dan zou hij worden doodgeschoten. Keestra bleef weigeren, waarop de militair zijn ultimatum inderdaad uitvoerde. Zijn commandant sprak destijds schande uit over dit nodeloze geweld. Voor straf is de executeur naar het Oostfront in Rusland gestuurd en daar gesneuveld.
