    Jan heeft een Commanditaire Vennootschap samen met dr. IJ. Poortinga, opgericht in 1937. Zij fabriceren accumalatoren en grossieren in automobielonderdelen. De Duitsers kwamen geregeld om auto-onderdelen, maar ze zochten zoveel mogelijk uitvluchten om niets te leveren. Toen dat duidelijk werd voor de Duitsers kwamen die in het magazijn de onderdelen zoeken en namen ze dan mee. Vaak kregen ze hier niet voor betaald. Ook kwamen de Duitsers vaak met hoogwaardige accu's om te repareren, maar die hielden ze dan achter en vervingen ze voor minderwaardige accu's. Ook repareerden ze accu's voor de ondergrondse beweging. Tenslotte liep dit alles spaak, waarna Jan zich in veiligheid heeft gesteld.

    Folkert kende Jan al jaren en wist dat hij accu's leverde aan de ondergrondse beweging. Eens zag hij een Duitse chauffeur die door Jan geholpen werd. Toen Folkert vroeg of hij aan Duitsers leverde, antwoordde Jan dat hij niet anders kon en juist door dat te doen ook aan de ondergrondse kon leveren. Bovendien beduvelde hij de zaak door Duitsers minderwaardige accu's te geven en de ondergrondse kwalitatief hoogwaardig materiaal.
