    Aldert Tuinman is begonnen in 1900 met alleen overslag, bevrachting en expeditie voor Hubert Jans en voor Meinesz. Dat was voor namelijk hout overslag wat toen door de havens en door de singels naar de grote houtschuren toe ging allemaal op het handje of met de boom gedaan werd. Later ook voor de ZPC en de fa. Kuhlman met aardappelen en allerhande spul.

    Toen eind 20er en begin 30er jaren de dekschuit haar intrede deed kon men niet langer zonder sleepboot. In de haven werd het drukker, de schepen werden groter dus met de hand kon niet langer. Het is bekend dat Sleepbedrijf Flietstra begin jaren ’20hier al werkzaam was en ik weet dat Flietstra de fa. Tuinman wel eens hielp met slepen. Tuinman heeft het bedrijf op 1 mei 1934 opgericht en daarna kom ik de naam Flietstra niet meer tegen, mischien was er sprake van een overname maar dat is onbekend.

    Het gebeurde wel eens dat Tuinman een andere boot inhuurde. Begin 60er jaren was dat met de Souvenir van oliehandel van der Meulen.
