Notes about Willem Fredrik van Wijk

Thomas en Willem Frederik (een naam die in de familie veel voorkomt) van Wijk zijn
de stichters van het bekende textielbedrijf Gebr. Van Wijk & Co. In 1850 wordt het
bedrijf opgericht, nadat hun grootvader Dirk van Wijk al in 1795 als textielfabrikant was
begonnen en hun vader dat had voortgezet.
Het zijn kinderrijke gezinnen en het bedrijf blijft tot 1957 bestaan met vijf generaties
lang familieleden als directeur. Daarnaast zijn er nog andere firmanten, waarvan
enkele generaties Corts de bekendste zijn. Hun fabrieken stonden op de Hogewoerd,
het Levendaal en aan de Kanaalweg. In 1915 vereerde koningin Wilhelmina het bedrijf
met een bezoek.
Naast hun drukke werkzaamheden
in het bedrijf vinden Thomas en Willem
Frederik beiden tijd om ook maatschappelijk actief te zijn, met name in
christelijke organisaties.
