Jacobus (Koos) Hendrik Ververs wordt op 30 november 1919 geboren in Leiden. Hij was de zoon van Johannes Ververs en Jannetje Boom. Koos was roverscout (voortrekker) in Leiden. De soldaat Ververs is dienstplichtig soldaat en maakte als vrijwilliger deel uit van een patrouille van drie man, geleid door de korporaal C. Bomers. De derde man was de korporaal G. Waalewijn (van 19 Bt LuA). De patrouille was door de C-Gr. Kil op 12 mei rond 1400 uur over de Kil gestuurd om inlichtingen omtrent de Duitse sterkte bij Willemsdorp te verzamelen. Nadat de Duitsers de patrouille ontdekten, brak een hevig vuur los. Daarbij werd de soldaat Ververs gedood. Voor zijn moed bij de patrouillegang werd soldaat Ververs bij KB van 6 mei 1946 postuum het Bronzen Kruis toegekend, met als motivatie: "Heeft zich door moedig optreden tegenover den vijand onderscheiden bij het uitvoeren, met 2 anderen, van een gevaarlijke patrouille-o”. Hij ligt begraven op begraafplaats Dubbeldam in Dordrecht.
