Notes about Gisbertus "Gysbert" Raets

In Sevenum in de Raadhuisstraat waar nu het Raadhuisplein ligt, lagen vroeger woningen. Hier heeft ook de oude burgemeesterswoning van de familie Everts gelegen. Dit huis is nog wel bekend van oude foto's en is in de 60-er jaren moeten wijken voor het plein. Op deze plek heeft nog eerder de brouwerij van de familie Raedts gelegen. In het begin van de 18de eeuw woonde hier Petrus Raedts. Hij was schepen, brouwer, tapper en moutmaker. Petrus had een broer Jan die brouwer is geweest bij De Swaen. Vader Gisbertus was ook brouwer; hij had bij zijn boerderij een brouwerij en een herberg. Petrus' zoon Cornelis neemt de brouwerij over. Cornelis verhuist in 1792 naar de Renkenstraat waar hij een nieuwe brouwerij begint bij de boerderij die zijn vrouw Elisabeth Leijsten via erfdeling had verkregen.
