'Wederom 3 maanden verder, waarin niet veel veranderingen zijn aan te stippen en toch ook weer wel. Vooreerst dan het voornemen van mijn Dochter Alida. Meermalen heb ik in de vorige bladwijzen gewezen op de eigenaardige levenswijze van dit, voorheen zoo levenslustige meisje, in de laatste jaren zoo stil en afgetrokken en geheel op haar zelven. Nu en dan eens gewoonlijk om de 4 weken ons komende bezoeken en verder geen afleiding begeerende.
Voor eenige weken dan ontvingen wij van haar de mededeeling en tevens het verzoek om goedkeuring van haar voornemen om in de kloosterstaat te gaan bij de Eerw. Zusters Ziekenverpleegsters te Maastricht. Ofschoon dit bericht mij wel eenigzins verraste was ik toch weer niet zoo verwonderd als men dit zou verwachten. Misschien is het voor haar een gelukkige overgang. Ik kan er weinig van zeggen. Voor eene zaak vrees ik nog wel en dat is de Volkomen gehoorzaamheid. Zij is nogal doordrijvend van aard en geeft zich niet gemakkelijk gewonnen. De tijd zal echter moeten leeren of ik mij ook hierin heb vergist. Zoo zij er zich in kan schikken is zij voor goed verzorgd. Want och, het leven in de Wereld is in vele gevallen ook niet altijd rooskleurig. 13 Juli zal zij thuis komen om ons 25 jarig feest nog mede te kunnen vieren en dan waarschijnlijk 15 Aug. Vertrekken.'
