Delhi is a village in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 3,087 at the 2010 census. Delhi is the county seat of Delaware County. The accepted pronunciation is Del-HY rather than Del-EE. The Village of Delhi is within the Town of Delhi on Routes 10 and 28. The State University of New York at Delhi, partially within the village limits, is located southwest of the town hall. Delhi is featured as "Walleye" in the humorous book It Takes a Village Idiot, Complicating the Simple Life (isbn 0-7432-1131-6) by writer Jim Mullen about his problems adapting to the rural lifestyle after he and his wife buy a weekend home in the area. It is also the setting for the award-winning children's book, My Side of the Mountain. Delhi was formally incorporated as a village in 1821.
