Saddle River is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 3,152, reflecting an decline of 49 (-1.5%) from the 3,201 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 251 (+8.5%) from the 2,950 counted in the 1990 Census. Nationwide, Saddle River ranked 28th as of the 2000 Census among the 100 highest-income places in the United States (with at least 1,000 households). Saddle River was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on November 22, 1894, from portions of Orvil Township, based on the results of a referendum held three days earlier, at the height of the "Boroughitis" phenomenon sweeping through Bergen County at the time. The borough is named after the Saddle River, which flows through the borough and is a tributary of the Passaic River.
