Notes about John Sewart

SUMMARY: It was formely thought that this John Sewart married Jane Olliphant (21 Feb 1708/9) but recent research shows this is not the case. Wife is presently unknown. (Price and Associates Research findings 7 Jun 1999 in possession of J. Lewis Taylor). Our ancestor Elizabeth's christening record states her father, John Sewart, was of Strickland Kettle Burnside. Burnside is a Chalperly of Kendal Parish. Research shows that there were two John Sewarts living within the parish of Kendal, one in Chalpery of Burnside (our John) and one in Chalpery of Hugil or Nether Staveley (John and Jane). Both families are having children at the same time. It seems as if Frank C. Taylor did the ordinance work for both couples in 1959/60.
In this same Price report it was stated that John Sewart appears to have had three earlier children in Crosthwaite and Lyth, a parish immediately adjacent to Kendal, in 1700, 1702 and 1704. Need to check out and determine if they are his children. Maybe a will or probate exists.
The children, Margaret and John were sealed to John Sewart and Jane Olliphant, the christeneing records list them as children of Jhn Sewart (no mother listed). Elizabeth and Agnes were sealed to just the father Jhn Sewart. The daughter Anne Sewart 27 Jan 1714 ordinance work was done through the extraction program. The dates cannot be verified on the ordinance index.
A call was made to the Recorder at the Jordan River Temple (8 Aug 2001) and he advised that the sealing to spouse be re-done "John Sewart and Mrs. John Sewart" [or the name of the wife if discovered]and the children Margaret and John be sealed to the father.

PRICE/REPORTS: Report 13 Apr 1995, 7 Jun 1999 proved Jane Olliphant not wife of this John.
