Notes about Mary Cowperthwaite

SUMMARY: Early records indicated that Mary was the daughter of Matthew Cowperthwaite and Susan Dodson. There is no evidence to substantiate this parentage? Lewis Taylor was presented with this problem and Price and Associate Genealogical Services came to the following conclusion. No christening record had been located for Mary. An additional flag went up when the rather less common names of Matthew and Susan were not given to any of Mary's children. Of five daughters, Mary Saul nee Cowperthwaite did not name a child Susan. Certainly this was not typical." Surrounding parish were searched as well as probate indexes without producing any results.

PRICE/REPORTS: Price report 15 Oct 2002 confirms that Matthew Cowperthwaite and Susan Dodgson as Mary's parents remains unproven. Kendal Deanery were examined . . . 1670-1720. .. none helpful at this point. Report 27 Feb 2004 states ". . . we can confirm that Matthew Couperthwaite who died in 1746 is NOT Mary's father." Report 14 Jun 2004 . . . further probate searches will have to be conducted.
