SUMMARY: Some records have Mary's surname as Townly. The source for this was given as Boyd's Marriage Index. This index was searched (942 K22b Vol. 13) It read as: "James Dewhurst and Mary Townley married 1666 in Chester." It is believe this marriage should be discounted because our James and Mary's first child was christened in 1683 some 17 years after the marriage.
