Notes about Thomas Whittington

SUMMARY: The birth/christening for Thomas is in question. Several dates has been used: [1] about 1649; [2] 9 Feb 1628, this date is actually a burial date for a Thomas Whittington; [3] 1 Oct 1628 this date is a christening for a Margrete (believe father is Richard, difficult to read). The 1628 dates would make Thomas age 40 at time of marriage and 64 at birth of last child and twenty years older than his wife.
When Thomas endowment was done in 1934, the following information was given. "Thomas Whittington (p. Francis Whittington and Agnes ) (wife Elizabeth ) of Middleton-in-Lonsdale, Westmorland, England, bur 1 Jun 1705, Bap. 24 Feb 1934." Who is the father of this Thomas? Is it Thomas, Francis or someone else.
This information was given to Lewis Taylor and a response dated 15 Oct 2002 provided by Price & Associates Genealogical Services follows. It might be mentioned that Price came to the same conclusion. "The previously proposed pedigree with Thomas Whittington as the father of the above mentioned Thomas Whittington has been rejected not only because of the chronological anomaly, but because much more likely parental candidates has been located, Richard and Elizabeth Whittington or Frances and Margaret Whittington. The 1593 Thomas may prove to be the ancestral Thomas' grandfather"
Also there is a possibility that Thomas married first Isabel Baines of Middleton 26 Mar 1662 and then married Elizabeth Usherwood in 1668. Thomas and Elizabeth's first male child was named Richard, this might indicate that Thomas's father is Richard, but no birth record can be found at this time. Richard and Elizabeth had children Maria Dec 1625, Margaret Oct 1628 and Richard Aug 1634. There is a six year gap between Margaret and Richard and a search in surrpounding parishes might prove helpful. This 1662 marriage and baptism records were in Kirkby-in-Lonsdale Parish. Because of the above the parents of Thomas will be removed until such time it can be proven.
