Notes about James Taylor

SUMMARY: The father of James Taylor is in question. Records compiled in the late 1940's early 1950's indicate that the parents of James Taylor were William Taylor born abt 1535 in Storth, Beetham and buried 8 Jan 1611/2 in Beetham; Agnes born abt 1539 in Cartmel and buried 14 Feb 1624 in Beetham. The marriage for this couple was listed as 25 Aug 1650 in Cartmel, but the parish records only states "William Taylor and his wife married" no name for the bride. The 1950 compiled records lists 13 children for William and Agnes, all having christening dates recorded in Cartmel except James. What is worrysome about this is that on the parish records NO PARENTS are listed for these children. From 1560-1582 there were 20 children by the name of Taylor christened in Cartmel and 13 of these were selected to be children of William and Agnes The Cartmel records also lists '2 children of Willm Taylors of Holker christened 1 Oct 1576', this is the correct time frame for birth of James.
Price & Associates (report dated 8 Dec 2003) presents a William Taylor buried 14 Jun 1615, in Cartmel and his wife Margaret buried 11 Dec 1608 (text: Margaret Taylor wife of William of Holker) as parents of James Taylor based on the above 2 unnamed children of William of Holker and burial records. It is an interesting thought and has some merit, but the following casts doubts on this.
In the summer of 2004, Ann Bunting, found a will for a Bryan Taylor of Meethope in Beetham dated 25 May 1614, in this will he mentions: My wife Juliam; my son James Taylor and his children Arthure and Margaret, George Slater, my son-in-law and his sons William and Thomas; Nicholas Dixon my son-in-law and his daughter Maria
Because of the confusion as to the parents of James Taylor, William Taylor and Agnes will be removed until such time as one of the three above possible parents can be determined.
