Род Ð Ð¾Ð¼Ð°Ð½Ð¾Ð²Ñ‹Ñ… Ð¿Ñ€Ð¸Ð½Ð°Ð´Ð»ÐµÐ¶Ð¸Ñ‚ к числу древних семей московского боярства. Первый известный по летописям представитель этой фамилии — Андрей Иванович, имевший прозвище Кобыла, в 1347 году находился на службе у Великого Владимирского и Московского князя Симеона Ивановича Гордого.

Михаил Фёдорович родился в 1596 году в семье боярина Ð¤Ñ‘дора Никитича Романова (впоследствии Ð¿Ð°Ñ‚риарха Ð¤Ð¸Ð»Ð°Ñ€ÐµÑ‚а) и его жены ÐšÑÐµÐ½Ð¸Ð¸ Ивановны, урождённой Шестовой. Приходился двоюродным племянником Фёдору Иоанновичу, последнему русскому царю из московской ветви династии ;Рюриковичей.

При Ð‘орисе Годунове Ð Ð¾Ð¼Ð°Ð½Ð¾Ð²Ñ‹ подверглись опале. В 1600 году начался розыск по доносу дворянина Бертенева, служившего казначеем у Александра Романова —; дяди будущего царя. Бертенев донес, что Романовы хранят у себя в казне волшебные коренья, намереваясь «Ð¸ÑÐ¿Ð¾Ñ€Ñ‚ить» (умертвить колдовством) царскую семью. Из дневника польского посольства следует, что отряд царских стрельцов совершил вооруженное нападение на подворье Романовых. 26 октября 1600 г. братья Романовы были арестованы. Сыновья Никиты Романовича: Фёдор, Александр, Михаил, Иван и Василий были пострижены в монахи и сосланы в Сибирь в 1601 г., где большинство из них погибли[2].

Михаил родился 12 июля — в день святого Михаила Малеина, в честь которого он был крещён; также Ð¿Ð¾ традиции он был назван Ð² честь дяди — ÐœÐ¸Ñ…аила Никитича Романова[3].
