Anna Maria HILBERS or Phenenna Maria (Anna Maria/Maria/Maria
Catharina) GIELBERS aka MÖLLERJANS and MÖLLERING
Bernard Henrich Wemhoff was married in Burgsteinfurt to Anna Maria
Hilbers. There are several records in the Burgsteinfurt church books relating to this couple. All give the wife's name as Anna Maria Hilbers. In those times, there was a Hilbers family residing in the next town, Borghorst. Anna Maria Elisabeth Hilbers, born 1763 in Borghorst to Joseph Hilbers and Barbara Böckeler, would have been 23-years-old at her 1786 marriage to Wemhoff. Some of the church records in Meppen refer to the spouse of Wemhoff as Anna Maria Gielbers or Möllerjans or Möllering. The suggestion that her surname was Gilbers/Gielbers or Möllerjans/Möllering appears an error caused by confusion with another person living in Meppen at same time. Both appear in Meppen church records in 1799 as mothers of children, one Wehmhoff the other Otten. Anna Maria Gielbers Möllerjans was married to Joannes Otten. After looking at the records relating to Gielbers/Möllerjans, I think it safe to disregard any association to Anna Maria Hilbers. On the evidence, the name of Josephus Wemhoff's mother is more likely to be Anna Maria HILBERS than any of the other names appearing in the records. Phenenna Maria Gielbers was born Dahlem[Dalum] parish of Hesepe 1756 d/o Wilibaldus Gielbers and Angela [https://data.matriculaonline.eu/de/deutschland/osnabrueck/gross-hesepe-st-nikoluasgeeste/D1_003_2/?pg=6]. At the 1829 marriage in Meppen of her daughter, Joanna Otten to Joannes Hermannus Vieler, the bride's parents are Joannes Otten and Maria Möllerjans.

There appears to be a relationship between Gielbers, Vieler, Otten and
Wemhoff families around Borken. Joannes Hermannus Vieler was a witness at the marriage of Joseph Wemhoff and Bernardina Olling/Aalderink. The names Elisabeth Otten (born Vieler) and Hermann Heinrich Vieler also appear as godparents for the Wemhoff X Olling children baptized in Meppen. This connection between families might have contributed to the confusion.
