Catherine de Parthenay est considérée comme une des femmes les plus intelligentes de son temps, elle a eu François Viète comme précepteur. Catherine est une des héroïnes Protestantes des XVI et XVIIèmes siècles. Elle participe activement à la défense de la Rochelle en 1627-1628. Au delà de son rôle politique elle est également poétesse, dramaturge et mathématicienne.
