Had a firm "Edelsteine und Perlen" which existed till 1927. Together with his sons they sold pearls but lost a lot of money due to Japanese pearls that entered the market.

 

He gave much money to charity. He was a merchant in Cologne, Paris and Frankfurt.

 

After his first wife Charlotte Wertheimer died in 1840, he married her sister Zerline. She died in 1881 and till his death in 1897 he lived with his son Wilhelm.
