Zij deed toen zij 18 jaar was, de huishouding voor haar vader, die haar

daar oud genoeg voor vond. Zij had steeds te kampen met een kastekort en

had daarover telkens ongenoegen tot zij een sluitpost "grutterswaren

uitvond, waarmee wel genoegen genomen werd...

Zij werkte als telefoniste en fotografeerde bijzonder mooi.

Toen de vrouw van David Simons haar 2e kind verwachtte en voor de

bevalling naar Palembang moest, ging zij naar Indie om voor hem de

huishouding te doen en voor het kind te zorgen. Zij bleef in Indie, ging

naar Batavia, kreeg daar een betrekking bij de Spoorwegen en liet na de

dood van haar vader haar zuster Emma - voor wie zij werk bij de

pakketvaart had gevonden - overkomen.

Na de eerste wereldoorlog kwam zij via Australie en Amerika naar Holland

en kocht in Bosch en Duin een lap grond voor 2,5 cent de vierkante meter

om daar later een huis op te laten zetten. Van die plannen kwam door

tegenwerking van Emma niets. Zij kwam in 1922 met haar zuster naar

Holland terug en ging met haar samen in Hilversum wonen aan de

Heuvellaan, waar zij een agentuur van de Galeries Lafayette begin,

krielkippen hield en zoals zij dat noemde "geknakte lelies" opkweekte.

(Familie of vrienden, die na een ziekte moesten opknappen.)

Later gingen de zusters uit elkaar en ging zij in Schoorl wonen, waar zij

die bezigheden voortzette (behalve de kippen). In de bezetting verbleef

zij "in ballingschap" in Amsterdam, verknoeide daar ondergedoken door

zwaar lichamelijk werk haar gezondheid en stierf in Schoorl een paar

dagen voor de ondertrouw van haar neef Frans. Zij was een bijzonder mens,

door iedereen om haar grote humor gewaardeerd.
