    11. Research on Gabriel Church, Illa W. Ison Researcher, Gabriel Church after the Civil War
Gabriel was asked much in the Civil War. Sons William, Gabriel, Isaiah, and John were called to serve. Son Wilson was also called for a short time, but was allowed to return home because of the hardship imposed on the families. Isaiah was the only son lost. He died in a military prison in Illinois. During the war Gabriel and Jane were called on to look after all of the wives and children of all the sons, often having to hide food and livestock in the hills to save them from raiders from both sides. Within a few years after the war, most of this extended family moved to Letcher and Lawrence Co.
