"Jaap van Manus van Gees"

Dat een baas streng moest zijn, blijkt uit de volgende anecdote. De (latere president-kerkvoogd) J. Schaap
(Potloodjen) had een knecht die steeds opdrachten niet of verkeerd verstond en zei doof te zijn; totdat deze hangenbaas, achter de knecht lopende, een zilveren gulden op de grond liet vallen. De man keek ogenblikkelijk om om het geldstuk op te pakken .... Hij mocht van de baas nooit meer 'doof' zijn op straffe van ontslag.
De foto is niet in Huizen genomen, maar in de hangen (Huizens voor bokkingrokerij) van de Gebroeders Schaap in Holzheim (bei Neuss) in Duitsland. De vrouwen op de foto dragen dan ook geen klederdracht en hebben klompschoenen aan. Er waren daar meerdere Huizers werkzaam, die voor een paar weken van huis gingen. Het waren veelal rokers (Hain van Geertjen - Hendrik Visser, Jan Pleitjen - Jan Schipper) en chauffeur Kees Westland, die daar zijn vrouw Marie vond. Links op de foto op Hollandse klompen staat Jan Schipper en rechts de baas J. Schaap (Jaap van Manus van Gees). Het lijkt wel of ook hij een gulden laat vallen ... In de oorlog werd de hangen geconfisceerd en later opgeheven, want de harde bokking had zijn tijd gehad.
