RALPH JANSSEN PASSES AWAY
Ralph Janssen passed away at his home in Titonka last Thursday and the funeral was beld from the Ramsey Reformed church Saturday conducted by Rev. Schnucker. The last rites were largely attended showing the esteem in which this man washeld.
Ralph Reinderk Hinderks Janssen, son of Henry and Gertie Janssen was born in Rysum, Ostfriesland, Germany on November 30, 1864. On April 19, 1890, he was married to Gretje Voogd, and two years later they came to the United States.
They lived at Bancroft one year and while there he build a store building on the prairie where Buffalo Center now stands for Lawrence Siaba and it is now owned by Morten Anferson, and a house for Adam Fischer. The house is now owned byJon Frerichs. While building these buildings he often walked to Bancroft to see his family. Later they moved to Buffalo Center and lived there three years. He build numerous buildings, homes and school houses in the neighborhood.
They moved from Buffalo Center to the farm in German townshi now owned by Ed. Ricks, where they lived until 1928 when they moed to Titonka, where Mr. Janssen had since lived. Mrs. Janssen passed away in 1933.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Janssen, one son Henry having passed away in 1930. the other children are Gertie at home, Bena, Mrs. Ben Geerdes of Bancroft; Mrs. John Cordes of Titonka; Ronie of Lakota; Gesina, Mrs. GeorgeHeyer of Bancroft; Andrew of Crystal Lake. there are fifteen grandchildren.
Mr. Janssen atted school in Germany until he was 14 years of age. He then worked with his father iat Carpentering and making caskets. He served three years in the German army.
He was a member of the Ramsey Reformed church, and served several terms as deacon and elder.
A brother, Aggo Janssen, lives at Buffalo Center. One sister, Mrs. Gestina Schutter of Wesley, preceded him in death. Two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law still live in Germany. ..." <>
