The Mavis M. Kuper, 91, of Le Mars passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

Mavis Maxine Jibben was born on October 6, 1925 near Davis, South Dakota, one of sixteen children born to Fred W. and Marie (Marks) Jibben. She attended Teacher Training summer school at the University of South Dakota, and taught in a one-room country school prior to marriage.

On June 9, 1946, Mavis and Francis H. Kuper were united in marriage at the Turner County Evangelical Presbyterian Church near Davis, South Dakota. They made their first home on the Kuper family farm near Lennox, SD. She was a piano teacher and a church organist during the years she lived near Lennox. Mavis also volunteered as a 4-H leader.

In 1970 Mavis and her husband Francis moved to Minneapolis where Mavis worked at IDS (Now Ameriprise) for about 25 years. Francis passed away on December 30, 1975.

Mavis moved to Le Mars to be nearer her daughter in 1998 following her retirement. She was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Glenda (Lynn Gross) Drennen of Sioux City, IA and Lyle Dean (Deborah Stephens) Kuper of Greenville, SC; a daughter-in-law, Mariann Bernard (Kuper) of Highlands Ranch, CO; a grandson, Derek (Tiffny) Kuper and their son, Emerick Daryl Kuper of Chesapeake, VA: sisters, Marlys Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, Audrey Penney of De Smit, SD, Eunice (Keith) Hesby of Lake Preston, SD, Shirley (Jim) Cooper of Brookings, SD, Sharon Jibben of Chanhassen, MN, Palma (Wayne) Stombaugh of Sioux Falls, SD, Nola (Den) Notaro of Stillwater, MN and Myrna (Gene) Heilman of Madison, WI; brothers, Leland (Jan) Jibben of Renner, SD, Orlin (Carol) Jibben of Sioux Falls, SD, Wendell (Barb) Jibben of Forest Grove, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; son, Daryl Frank Kuper; sisters, Arlene Knock, Phyllis Meyer and Loretta Nelson; and a brother, Kenneth Jibben.
