Hermina Straatmeyer, 94, Sioux Falls, formerly Lennox, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center.

Hermina Annetta Kuper was born on June 26, 1921, at Davis, SD, the daughter of Cornelius "Casey" and Grace (Buse) Kuper. She grew up near Lennox attending Goldenrod #66 Rural School and graduated from Lennox High School in 1939. She went on to earn her Teacher's Certificate, graduating from Freeman Junior College in 1941. She taught rural school in Lincoln and Turner Counties.

On May 30, 1942 she married Reinder J Straatmeyer at Lennox.

They lived northwest of Tea and retired into Lennox in 1983. Hermina also worked as a home Health Aid for the SD Department of Social Services from 1973 to 1985. Reinder died on June 17, 1996.

Hermina was a member of Germantown Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was active in WIC. She enjoyed playing piano, crocheting and embroidery on quilts for her children, grandchildren and friends. She also kept scrapbooks of travel and local history.

Besides her parents and husband , Hermina was preceded in death by one son, Larrie.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Glenda Lee (David) Zinz, Sioux Falls, Clyde (Nancy) Straatmeyer, Hermosa and daughter-in-law, Marcia Straatmeyer, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; Larrie, Jr., Randy, Tom, Laura, Kristeen, Ryan, James and Amy. five great-grandchildren and sister Jean VanNingen, Sioux Falls as well as other relatives and friends.
