----
Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurchy was the oldest son of Sir Colin Campbell of Glenurchy, first of the House of Glenurchy, and his 1st wife Jonet Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, Lord of Lorn. He was the full brother of Patrick Campbell.
After the death of Duncan's mother, Colin Campbell married several more times, therefore Duncan had multiple younger 1/2 siblings: John Campbell (Bishop of the Isles), Margaret Campbell, John Campbell of Lawers, George Campbell, Mariot (Marion) Campbell, and Helen Campbell.
His stepmothers were: Margaret (Marie) Robertson of Strowan, and Margaret Stirling of Keir.
Duncan's father Colin was enfeoff with the Lands of Glenurchy by his father Duncan Campbell, Head of Clan Campbell, on 20 October 1432, becoming "Sir Colin Campbell, First of Glenurchy". Duncan's uncle, Archibald Campbell, Master of Campbell, his father's oldest brother, died in 1440. Archibald's only son Colin Campbell became the ward of Duncan's father. Duncan likely grew up with his cousin Colin as an 'older brother'.
In 1445 Duncan's grandfather Duncan Campbell was created officially "First Lord Campbell of Lochawe" by King James II.
Duncan's grandfather died in 1453 and his oldest cousin Colin became 2nd Lord Campbell and Chief of Clan Campbell. Colin married the younger sister of Duncan's mother, Isabel Stewart, also a daughter of John Stewart, Lord of Lorn. Therefore, Colin Campbell was not only Duncan's older cousin, he was also his uncle, and Duncan's Clan Chief. In 1457 Duncan's cousin Colin was made even more powerful when King James II created him 1st Earl of Argyll.
Duncan grew up surrounded by powerful Campbells. His cousin Colin's oldest son and heir Archibald Campbell became one of Duncan's closest friends.
In September 1475 Duncan's father Colin died and Duncan succeeded as "2nd of Glenurchy".
Duncan Campbell married twice. His first marriage was about 14 October 1479, to Margaret Douglas, daughter of George Douglas, fourth Earl of Angus. Duncan and Margaret had 4 children:
- Sir Colin, succeeded as 3rd of Glenurchy
- Archibald, died 29 April 1552.
- Patrick, died young
- Elizabeth, married David Toshach of Monzievaird.
After his fist wife's death, Duncan married 2nd to Margaret Moncrief, daughter of Sir John Moncrief. Duncan and Margaret had 3 children:
- John of Crannich Bishop of the Isles
- Catherine, married William Murray of Tullibardine
- Annabella, married Alexander Napier of Merchiston (d. 1547), married 2nd Robert Fairlie of Braid.
Sir Duncan Campbell 2nd of Glenurchy, died in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513. His younger brother John Campbell, and his cousin Archibald Campbell 2nd Earl of Argyll fought and died at his side. It is therefore fitting that they were all buried side by side at the churchyard of Kilmun, Argyll.
Duncan was survived by his 2nd wife Margaret who married 2nd William Menteith of Kerse and Alva and died in November 1554.
He was succeeded by his oldest son Sir Colin Campbell 3rd of Glenurchy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Flodden
The Battle of Flodden or Flodden Field or occasionally Battle of Branxton was fought in the county of Northumberland in northern England on Sept. 9, 1513, between an invading Scots army under King James IV and an English army commanded by the Earl of Surrey. It ended in victory for the English army, and was the largest battle in numbers fought between the two nations. James IV was himself killed in the battle, becoming the last British monarch to suffer such a fate. As the nineteenth century antiquarian John Riddell supposed, nearly every noble family in Scotland would have lost a member at Flodden. The dead are remembered by the song (and pipe tune) "The Flowers of the Forest." Listen to the tune: http://www.whitestick.co.uk/midi/flowers.mid"
