"Mahlon Gorton Dies After Operation
-
Mahlon Preston Gorton, 73, of this city, passed away at 1:15 P. M. yesterday at Flower Hospital in Toledo, following an operation. He had continued his work as custodian at the local Ohio State Employment Office on West Wooser Street until last Friday. An open blister, caused an infection which later resulted in gangrene.

He had held his present position since 1939, and before that worked at the Wood County Juvenile Home for a number of years. Mr. Gorton was born in Jerry City on November 3, 1873, and spent most of his life in Wood County.

For 23 years he was a motorman on the Maumee Valley line, which made the loop from Toledo to Maumee and Perrsburg and back. During the first World War he worded in the shipyards on the west coast, and for a number of years he was employed at the Willys Overland in Toledo. He and his wife have lived at 308 West Wooster Street, this city, most recently.

Mr. Gorton was admired by all who knew him as a find gentleman. He was past master of the Phoenix Lodge at the F. & A. M. in Perrysburg. Besides his wife Etha, who is a matron at the Juvenile House, Mr. Gorton leaves to mourn him a brother, Lemert, of Springdale, Ark., a sister, Mrs. Mattie Gossnell, of Wayne, and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 P. M. at the Witzler Funeral Home in Perrysburg. A Masonic ceremony will be held with Rev. Cecil D. Smith, of the Perrysburg Methodist Church, in charge. Burial will be in Ft. Meigs Cemetery."
