William was born in Richmond [formerly Sheen] Surrey. Son of David Dudley and Joan[na] Arnold.

He married Jane Lutman on 24 Aug 1636 in Ockley, Surrey, England.

They sailed from London on 20 May 1635, on the vessel St. John, with Reverend Whitfield, as part of the Eaton and Hopkins expedition. He was the first of this line in the family of the lords of Dudlety to move to CT.

Came in 1639 to Guilford CT.
