Born Halvor Jacobson in Aavedal-eie, Gran, Oppland County, Norway. Arrived by ship in Philadelphia PA in 1861 with his parents, two brothers and one sister. They settled in Argyle Wisconsin and farmed in Wisconsin until land was opened in Iowa and Minnesota.
