Wretha Bosma Dec. 26, 1937 - Dec. 11, 2017
Wretha Bosma, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died in Colorado Springs, Colorado with family at her side after battling Alzheimer's disease. Born and raised on the family farm, Wretha graduated from Iowa State University, married James (Jim) Flohr, and they began their teaching careers in New Jersey. They had two children, Michael and Chris Ann. After Jim's diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 1969, Wretha worked hard as a caregiver and supporting the family. A life-long seamstress, Wretha's sewing accomplishments were diverse, from wedding dresses and drapes to quilts. Early on she was a tailor, and then began teaching sewing classes and selling Bernina sewing machines. She also taught night classes, combining her love of sewing and teaching. After Jim died in 1984, Wretha was even more active at her church in Mason City. Wretha was employed for many years at Farm Credit Services, always enjoying the interaction with farmers and their families. In 1989, Wretha married Clarence Bosma, and they continued to enjoy working with farmers, dancing, and traveling far and wide.
As her struggle with dementia increased, Wretha was able to spend the last few years in view of Pikes Peak, and enjoyed being close to Chris and Brian. We are incredibly thankful for the support and care of our families, friends, clients, a very precious caregiver Raelena Sandoval, Compassus Hospice staff, and staff at Sunrise University Park. Wretha carried herself through life with pride and hard work, humor, and love. We will miss her strength, her knowing looks, her blue eyes, and her beautiful smile.
Survivors include son, Mike (Letty) Flohr and granddaughter Iliana of California; daughter, Chris Ann Flohr and son-in-law Brian Anderson of Colorado Springs; sister, Dorothy (Charles) Swanson; sister-in-law, JoAnn Larson; brother-in-law, Steve Flohr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stepchildren, John Bosma, Mark Bosma, Linda Bosma; and four step grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jim Flohr and Clarence Bosma, sister Helen Myers. Wretha's wishes were for her body to be donated to medical research and education.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life Gathering at Tap Traders, 3104 N. Nevada, at 2:00P.M. on Saturday, December 23.
