Jennie (Kutzleben Van Loh) De Vries was born on Monday; June 29, 1903 near Wellsburg; Grundy County, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Johanna (Riebkes) Kurtzleben Van Loh. She grew up on a farm in Grundy County, Iowa. Jennie attended German Township #8 country school in Grundy County, Iowa. She received her early Christian instruction at East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley; Grundy County, Iowa. In March of 1921, Jennie moved with her parents to Wellsburg, Iowa. On Tuesday; December 22, 1925, Jennie married Jake J. De Vries in Kesley; Butler County, Iowa. The first years they farmed in Hardin and Butler Counties, Iowa. They moved to Dumont; Butler County, Iowa for three years and in 1938 they moved to a farm in German Township; Grundy County, Iowa. After the death of her husband: Jake, in 1986, she moved to Aplington; Butler County, Iowa. Jennie was a member of West Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley, Iowa and she was a member of the Ladies Aid group, which was later called WIC. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and embroidering until her eyesight failed. Jennie (Kutzleben Van Loh) De Vries, age 97, of Aplington, Iowa and formerly of Ackley, Iowa passed away on Friday; April 27, 2001 of natural causes at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her two daughters: Dorothy (Christie) Stubbe of Aplington, Iowa. Louella (Donald) Condie of El Centro; Imperial County, California. Her two sons: Louis (Janet) De Vries of Linn Creek; Camden County, Missouri. Richard (Linda) De Vries of Wiscasset; Lincoln County, Maine. Her daughter-in-law: Laura De Vries of Ackley, Iowa. Her fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Jake, her son: Arnold, her six brothers and her one sister. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday; April 30, 2001 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 1:30 p.m. at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Crane officiating. Interment will be in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A memorial fund in Mrs. De Vries' name has been established. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
