Eldon George Steever was born on a farm northeast of Lennox, SD on Nov. 14, 1922, the son of Gerhard and Luella (Jibben) Steever. He attended Bedford District #62 School and grew up in that community.

On Dec. 15, 1943 he was united in marriage to Vera Schoffelman at her parental home northwest of Lennox. They farmed their entire married life in the Lennox vicinity. His death ended a marriage of 51 years.

Eldon was an active and faithful member of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee. He also served as clerk of the Delapre Township Board for 15 years, and also served on the Buboltz School Board.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1960, his mother in 1971, a daughter-in-law, Gloria Steever, on Jan. 23, 1988, and a brother, Duane Steever, on Apr. 14, 1993.

On Oct. 13, 1994 Eldon became suddenly ill and following nine weeks of hospitalization he died at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls on Dec. 16, 1994. He attained the age of 72 years, one month and 2 days.

Grateful for having shared his life are his widow, Vera; three sons and their wives: Alvin and Karen Steever of rural Lennox, Myron and Deb Steever of Tulsa, OK, Merlyn and Diane Steever of rural Chancellor; two daughters: Verda and her husband, Ron Griffin, of Houston, TX., and Darla and Mike Towns of Houston, TX.; 15 grandchildren: Mark, Paula, Lynne, Todd, Traci and Terry Steever, Kim Wood, Karla Nussbaum, Lori Pike, Kris, Charles and April Griffin, Anna, Keri and Jack Towns; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, George Steever and his wife, Gladys, of Lennox; two sisters: Frances Klock of Sioux Falls, and Fern Postma and her husband, Lester, of Chancellor; a sister-in-law, Edna Steever of Chancellor; plus a host of other relatives and friends.
