Alexander was the son of Walter Derr of Russia. He was a beet worker. He married Louise Helwig in 1902, and they had Walter, Marie, Margaret, Louise, Mary, and Amelia. He died of a perirenal abcess age 46. Alexander immigrated in 1913.
