Funeral services for Hilke Hayunga, 81, of Wall Lake were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda. The Rev. Perkins Patton officiated. Mrs. Hayunga passed away at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake on Monday, Aug. 30.

Music was by organist Marilyn Hundling, by a duet comprised of Shelly Hundling and Arlen Willems and congregational singing.

Pallbearers were Delbert Graber, Richard Graber, Charles Hundling, David Hundling, Bruce Linde and Rodney Von Glan. Interment was made in the Wheatland Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Hilke Johanna Hayunga was born July 13, 1918, in Carroll County, Ia., the daughter of Johannes and Bertha Von Glan Tjaden. She was baptized on October 6, 1918, and confirmed April 8, 1933, into the Christian faith at Wheatland Presbyterian. She was a graduate of Wall Lake High School.

On January 1, 1963, she married Harry Hayunga at Wheatland Presbyterian. They lived, until Harry death in 1994, on the farm west of Breda where Hilke had been reared. At that time, she moved to Twilight Acres.

Mrs. Hayunga was a life-long member of the Wheatland congregation, where she was an elder and had served as the clerk of session. She served many years as a Sunday School teacher and for about 50 years as the church organist. She was a member of Wheatland Presbyterian Women and was a past president of that organization.

Survivors include numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of former students whom she and Harry often referred to as their kids.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harry.
