William John Grunden, Jr. of Miami, OK passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Windridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Miami, OK. He was 84.

John was born November 18, 1932 in Fairland, OK to William John and Ida (George) Grunden, Sr.

He had lived in the Miami and Fairland area all his life and served in the U.S. Army. John had worked at Miami Sales for several years and owned and operated Gruden's Furniture in North Miami, OK. He also was a farmer and cattle rancher. He was a member of the Southeast Baptist Church in Commerce, OK where he was a Sunday school teacher for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents , his brother Tom Grunden, his sister Zelma Ballew and a great grandson Tanner Chisum.

He married Elma (Brown) January 12, 1961 in Miami, OK and she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include 3 sons Rick Grunden of Tulsa, OK, Randy Grunden of Terre Haute, IN and Gus Grunden and wife Tracy of Grove, OK. 2 daughters Brenda Huffman and husband Jeff of Vinita, OK and Lucinda Provence and husband Vince of Miami, OK, 2 sisters Patsy Thomure of Afton, OK and Maudie Myers of Jay, OK, a special sister-in-law Jean Grunden of Broken Arrow, OK, 7 grandchildren , 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Rev. Leroy Orr will officiate. Pallbearers will be Glenn Thomure, Steve Thomure, Lynn Bowen, Austin Provence, Jim Mullin and Jim McCorkle. Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland, OK. Military Rites will be conducted by Grove Veterans Ritual Team. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
