Verna L. Manges, 78, of Mansfield died unexpectedly of heart failure January 3, 2000 at MedCentral Mansfield. Mrs. Manges was born January 11, 1921 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania residing in Mansfield since 1954. She retired from JC Penney in 1983 after 16 years of service in the boys department. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and Fun Center Sams.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Clyde F. Manges; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Becky Manges of Mansfield, Wayne and Dorinda Manges of Lexington; four grandchildren, Daniel and Holly Manges, Cheryl Bowman and Cathy Kinney; and one great-granddaughter, Nicole Mayton; one sister, Mildred McCreary of Central City, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Ida Mae Decker Hinson; five brothers; and two sisters.
Her going home to be with Jesus will be celebrated with calling hours being held at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday January 6, 2000 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 7, 2000 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Pastor Donald Cox. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
