DEATH OF A PIONEER Geerd J. Klaver Died at his Home In Kamrar Saturday; Lived In Community 52 Years

Mr. Geerd J. Klaver, well known and honored longtime resident of Hamilton county, died at 10:30 o'clock last Saturday night at his home in Kamrar, at the extreme old age of 92 years, 4 months and 27 days. Mr. Klaver, who had lived in the Kamrar community for over a half century, enjoyed exceptionally good health and vigor for one of his age until in the past few months, having failed gradually since the shock of the death of his son, Supervisor H.G. Klaver, last February. His death was due to a complication of ailments incident to his advanced years.

He was a son of Jurgen and Bina Klaver, and was born at Bunde, East Friesland, Germany, April 2, 1844. He died August 29, 1936.

He lived in Germany until in the year 1884, when he came to America, locating on a farm near Kamrar, and lived in that community all the rest of his life, for the past several years his home being in the town of Kamrar. As a young man while still living in the land of his birth, Mr. Klaver served in the German army during the war with France, 1870 to 1871.

He was married in Germany to Philipbina DeBoer, July 9, 1865. Nine children were born to this union, five of whom preceded him in death. His wife passed away September, 6, 1928. The four surviving children are Phillip, George, and Anko Klaver, and Mrs. Bina Smith, all of Kamrar. He also is survived by 50 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.

Mr. Klaver was a faithful and devoted member of the German Presbyterian church, in which he held membership for 51 years and in which he was an active worker in all the years of his active life. He enjoyed the highest esteem of all who knew him in the more than a half century of his residence in the Kamrar community and played an important part in the building up of that community.

The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, at one o'clock at the home and at one-thirty at the German Presbyterian church, interment being in the cemetery at that church. The pastor, Rev. H.F. Sinning, officiated.
