'Obituaries Ruth E. Heitland, 85

Funeral services for Ruth E. Heitland, 85, were held Saturday, February 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. Pastor William Peake and Pastor Paul Haugen officiated. Organist was Jan Missman. Specialmusic was provided by Phyllis Shortenhaus, Kathi Nelson and Emily Silber. The congregation also sang. Casketbearers were Travis Dontje, Tim Heidecker, Larry Mountain, Carey Melz, Scott Heitland, Cdr. Rick Mountain, Brandon Melz andRandy Melz. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery at Buffalo Center. Ruth passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Winter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Elaine Heitland, daughter of Forest and Emma (Schauf) Fisher, was born September 11, 1918 at Forest City. She grew up in the Thompson area and graduated from Thompson High School.

On October 30, 1934, she was united in marriage to George 'Joe' Heitland Jr. at Mason City. Together they made Buffalo Center thier home where they raised their family and lived in teh same house for 50 years.

Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for the Buffalo Hotel, the Buffalo Center Creamery, Allis Chalmers and later for Larry Sapp Auction Company. She was also active in the V.F.W. Auxillary, the First Congregational Church, Ladies Aid and theLadies Literary Circle. She also found joy in sewing, cardening and cooking for her family. She looked forward to traveling to California to visit her brothers and sisters and she loved to golf with Joe.

Ruth is survived by her husband, George 'Joe' Heitland of Buffalo Center; her children: Janell Heidecker and her husband, Ivan of Lakota; Diane Mountain and her husband, Bill, of Vernon Center, Minnesota; Connie Melz and her husband,Harlan, of Lakota; Terry Heitland of Long Lake, Minnesota; Patricia Dontje and her husband, Gary of Garner; a daughter-in-law, Andelia Heitland, of Des Moines; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; onegreat-great-granddaughter; three sisters: Doris Murphy of Vancouver, Washington,; Faye Timms of Norwalk; Geraldine Goumas of Niacc, New York; one sister-in-law, Ruth Fisher of Lake Mills; three brothers: Marlin Fisher and his wife, Dell,of Thompson; Richard Fisher and his wife, Margaret, of Layfayette, Colorado; Ramon Fisher and his wife, Joyce, of Humboldt; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: two sons Dennis and Greg; one grandson,Troy Heidecker; three brothers: Maurice, Robert and Carroll; two sisters: Gloria Winter and Dorothy Truman.'
