Elso and Burtus Jansen came to the Lakota area as young men, having lived their childhood at Kamrar, Iowa. Their brother, Henry, came several years later. Their parents were Juren and Henrietta (Buske) Jansen.

Burtus Jansen was born in 1867. He married Stentje Bosma in 1893. They were parents of Jerry, Ella (Stauffer Gray), Henrietta (Bowman), Herman, Bertha (Rippentrop), Christina (Hammond), Emma (Ewing), and Andrew.

Pearl Jansen (Fiest), daughter of Jerry, lives near Wells, Minnesota."
