MARRIAGE: Sunday, 16 Jul 1922 - Coshocton Tribune, pg 1 MISS JOHNSON WEDS IN EFFORT TO HOLD CHILDRENÙuS CUSTODY James Clendenning, 39, a miner, and Miss Grace Johnson, 32, daughter of James Johnson, Coshocton, were married Saturday morning in the office of Justice D. W. Bassett. Clendenning, it is said, claims to be the father of one of Miss JohnsonÙus four children who were taken to the children's home in Millersburg by state authorities Tuesday, and the marriage was an effort to obtain the custody of thechildren. Miss Johnson has been keeping her four children, the oldest of whom is 11, in a house in the alley at the rear of Main-st between hickory and Sixth-sts. The children were certified to the state board of charities by the juvenile court amonth ago. Objections to the loss of the children were made by Miss Johnson, and she was told that she could have them back when she provided a suitable home for them. As soon as the home can be provided, it is probable that the state board of charities will return the children, according to probate authorities.
