Reemt Ennen was born on Feb, 14, 1864 in Ostfriestland, Germany. As a young man he came to America and lived at Ackley, Iowa. It was there that he met Etta Ukena, who was also born in Aurich, Ostfriestland, Germany, on March 4, 1869. At the age of 11 she came to America with her family and settled in Ackley.

Reemt and Etta were married in 1889 and they farmed near Aplington, Iowa. In 1901 they moved to Germania to farm north of town.

They were the parents of nine children;

Anna, who married John Minors
Etta, who married Henry Olthoff
Roy, who married Nella Schadendorf
Minnie, who married Vance Lester
Henry, who married Alice Franzman
George, who married Annie Rippentrop
