Grace was born on August 1, 1846 in Moorhufen,East Friesa, Germany. They came to the United States in 1892 and lived in the Parkersburg area and are buried in the Parkersburg Cemetery."

"Claus and Mattie farmed on the home place of Mattie's parents, Hinrich and Maria Hinrichs. They bought the farm after Maria died in 1926 and farmed there until 1953, when they retired and moved to Allison. The property is owned today byMarie Hinders, (daughter of Claus and Mattie), Roger Hoodjer, and Carol Esposito (grandchildren of Claus and Marie).
